Gerald M. Hunter

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Montgomery Hunter announces his passing on Tuesday, November, 10th at the age of 93.


Gerald was the beloved husband to the late Muriel Hunter, dear father to Stephen & Nancy Hunter, Darlene & Kevin Maddox (Hunter), Brent & Julie Hunter, and the late Lorraine Hunter. He was the dear Grandfather to Sally Hunter, Michael Hunter, Mary Maddox, and Emma Maddox. He is survived by his sister Norma Webber (Hunter) of St. John, brother Harry (Betty) Hunter of Connell, brother Averil (Elaine) Hunter of Simonds, and brother in law Donald Cluff of Woodstock. He is pre-deceased by his brother William Hunter, sister in law Vella Hunter of Florenceville, and brother in law George Webber.



Gerald was born in Stickeny, NB on August 24th of 1922. He was the son of the late George Frederick Hunter and the late Charlotte (Lottie) Montgomery. He was a WWII veteran and served over seas for almost 5 years in the 4th armoured division of the Canadian Forces. Upon his return, he worked as a self employed mechanic for the rest of his career. His garage in Stickeny was a social centre, and often referred to as the ‘Crows Nest’. Gerald was an avid harness horseman. He owned, trained, and raced his horses at tracks across New Brunswick and Maine during the 1960’s and 70’s.

Gerald and his stories will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family extends an invitation to attend a celebration of life with visitation held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 12:00-2:00 pm. A Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. Pastor Brian Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in the Hunter Community Cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #37 will hold a Tribute Service at 11:45 am.


Donations in Gerald’s memory can be made to the Hunter Community Cemetery or the Riverview Manor in Bath.
