Kathleen L Thompson

1921-2024

Kathleen L Thompson
Kathleen Lindsay Thompson passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Riverside Court in Woodstock. She was born January 4, 1921, and was the daughter of the late Percy and Clara Whitehouse. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, B. Jerome Thompson; sons, Robert Thompson, Jerome Thompson; siblings, Claudia (Jack) Lundberg, Walter (Evelyn) Whitehouse, Clarence (Grace) Whitehouse, Madeline (Paul) Oliver, Ruth (Frank) Shute, Robert (Marg) Flemming; and son-in-law, Charles Kelley.

Born into a farming family in Glassville, Kay Thompson lived a lot in her 103 years. She moved to Brooklyn, New York in her youth during the skyscraper construction boom. She majored in chemistry and zoology at Dalhousie University. While at Dal she managed to chair multiple committees and win glee club awards and be voted Phi Chi's first Munro Day Queen.

Kay's professional journey led her to do post graduate work in the bio-chem department at Harvard Medical School where she co-published papers on the effects of insulin. She was working as a lab technician at UNB when she married the love of her life, Benedict Jerome (Jimmer). They eventually settled in Juniper where they raised 5 children who all thought she lived just for them.

Kay played a mean hand of bridge, adored watching political theatre as much as the World Juniors, made amazing Lady Ashburnham pickles, spent (too) many weekends at horse shows, hid her alarm at her children’s attempts to grasp French conjugation with mixed success, became a beloved confrere to her daughter-in-law, answered with equal affection to either Grammie or Gabba, was adept at texting even after turning 103, had countless friends and looked on life with an unshakeable optimism. ('Embrace uncertainty!') She is irreplaceable.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Megan Kelley of Bristol, Andrew (Sharon) Thompson of Woodstock, Paul Thompson of Grafton; grandsons, Scott Thompson, Isaac (Erin) Thompson, Christian (Amanda) Kelley, Ethan Kelley; great granddaughter, Norah Kelley; sister, Mary Flemming.

In keeping with Kathleen’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family interment will take place in the Glassville United Church Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Kathleen’s memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross. Arrangements are in the care of L.R.
