Miles A. Thomas

1925-2015

Miles A. Thomas
Miles Albert Thomas passed away peacefully at Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville on May 22. Miles’ brief illness was compounded by a broken heart since the passing of his beloved wife of 67 years, six months earlier. Miles, son of the late John and Eliza(Kilpatrick) Thomas was born December 4, 1925 on the farm in Knoxford where he spent his entire life. He was predeceased by wife Olive and brothers Ralph, Harold and Donald as well as 2 infant sisters.

Miles worked the family farm with his father and brothers, eventually partnering in 1949 with his brother Arnold until they both retired in 1989 leaving son Mark to assume ownership. Retirement was only a word but not a reality as Miles became the best hired hand Mark, and now his son Mitchell, ever had. Unlike Miles who would never take even a 24 hour vacation, his successors had someone to look after the fires, the cows(which were no longer milked twice daily) and all the high-tech potato storage devices. He was also a reliable tractor and machine operator during the seasonal 17 hour work-days, that had been his norm for nearly 365 days of the year.

Miles is survived by daughter Sheila Graham (Doug), sons Vernon (Catherine), Mark (Susan) and James (Annette). Also survived by loving grandchildren Corey Graham, Kelli Oulton (Jon), Ian Thomas (Kim), Mitchell Thomas (Samantha), Jon Thomas (Leah), and Logan Thomas; brother & sister-in-law, Arnold and Cora Thomas, brother Ray Thomas, sister-in- law Elaine Love, sister-in-law Dorothy Kennett, brother-in- law Evans MacDonald; 8 beloved great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Knoxford Praying Band Church on Sunday, May 24, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 25, 2015 at 11:00 am from the church. Rev.
