Marion I. DeMerchant Marion I. DeMerchant Marion I. DeMerchant
With broken hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marion Irene DeMerchant, in her own home in Beechwood, NB on Monday, January 23, 2023. Marion was born on December 2, 1930 in Upper Kent, NB as the first child of the late George and Adelaide (Broad) Giberson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Avery DeMerchant, 42 years this August, sister, Loretta Beulah Cox, and son-in-law George Levensailor.

Marion is survived by her 3 children: Linda Levensailor, Joanne DeMerchant (Robert), and Susan Crompton. Special girls, Carol Cox and Twyla Harvey. 6 precious Grandchildren: Bobbi Jo DeMerchant, Robyn (Clint) DeMerchant, Aaron (Allison) Levensailor, Janelle (Ryan Rayner) DeMerchant, Brooks (Chloe) Crompton, and Lauren Crompton. 9 beloved Great Grandchildren: Jordyn (Myles Romaine) and Kaine DeMerchant, Jacob and Lucas Haynes, Avery Bolland, Adelaide and Aiden Levensailor, Forrest and Asher Crompton. Adored Great Great Grandchildren: the Romaine's Willow and Gray and soon to arrive, Lennon. Siblings: Lawrence (Thelma) Giberson and Marie Giberson, along with a long host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Marion, being the eldest of child of her family, took on the role of caregiver as a young child and from housework to farm work, she was a Jill of all trades.
Marion managed the administrative part of Avery’s Plumbing and Electrical Company. She enjoyed working in retail at Buckingham Department Store, Gaunce’s Grocery Store, and Susan’s clothing store Split Image by providing advice to many satisfied customers and the youth in the community. She loved caring for her family, her home and excelled at cooking, baking, forever wielding a paint brush, and tending to her flower garden and plants. The path that connected her home to her sister’s made her a second mom to a village and she was loved by many more. She cared for her father at the end of his life and was a force in Lauren’s successes. Her grandchildren, and their children loved being the apples of her eye. Under her crisply pressed white blouses and pearls was the backbone of a strong and determined life force. She bared her losses and pain with great fortitude. Our loss is great and felt near and far away. We take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones in the sky and wish her a swift journey on the wings of her snow-white dove.

The DeMerchant family wish to give special thanks to Marion’s Angel, “Hallelujah, thank you, Jesus, you’re here,” Lori McDougall from Kindred Care. For the exceptional care by Cynthia Paddock, her palliative nurse, from New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program. Amy Goodfellow, from Kindred Care, for her industrious cleaning during weekend relief. Dr. Colin Lockart for his medical care over many years, when she could finally be convinced that a broken bone was serious enough for an emergency visit.

Visitation will be held at the L.R. Giberson Funeral Home in Florenceville, N.B. on Sunday, January, 29, 2023, from 1-3pm followed by Marion’s Celebration of Life at 3:30 pm. The interment will be at the Mineral Cemetery in the Spring. For those who wish, donations may be made to the DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue or the charity of the donor’s choice. L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors are entrusted with the arrangements.
